Lessons
I give private lessons in piano, guitar, voice, violin, viola, and flute. I teach many different styles of music, from classical to rock.
I teach at The Music Loft, a new music studio in Herndon. The Music Loft is very welcoming and inviting, and I can tell my students really enjoy their lessons there. I have a large window room with plenty of space, even for group lessons!
To sign up for lessons, you can email me or contact The Music Loft directly. For more information about The Music Loft, including contact information, please visit The Music Loft website.
My philosophy on teaching
First of all, I love teaching because it allows me to share my love of music with others!
After teaching for so many years, I have developed a philosophy about teaching music that applies to all instruments. I believe that students need the right balance of exciting material and structure in order to enjoy playing and make progress as well. I want to make sure that my students develop the proper techniques, but are also inspired and enjoy the music that they play. I tailor my approach to each student because every person has a different learning style. When first meeting with a student, I always like to ask what music they listen to, what music they envision playing on their instrument. I start from there and provide the structure and discipline to make sure they make steady progress toward their goals. Of course, I encourage them to cultivate consistent practice habits, and the effort that they put into practice is up to them!
I like to draw on my various experiences as a musician to help students learn all aspects of music. This includes music composition/songwriting, music theory, recording, performance, and playing with other musicians. I encourage students to explore different styles of music, try out various instruments, and let their interest and inspiration lead them.
And I have seen the results in my students. They make good progress and improve at their instruments, and most importantly, they love music and feel good about themselves as musicians.

I am a 36 year old guy thinking about trying out the guitar or piano. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Stuart Paul
